Student mentoring and the handholding is one of the best and appreciated practices in this college with a strong aspect of the Student-centric and student oriented culture of scaffolding. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines mentor as a trusted counselor or guide. The goal of higher education is to nurture the human being responsible for their own betterment but also capable of sustaining society and nature and ultimately for the development of a nation. A large cohort of students is from rural and urban areas, with different backgrounds and preparation. The college environment is very new for them and they find the various difficulties in due course of their student life. Probably students fail to recognize the goals of the institute. The student should have knowledge and skills related to his/her work and as a good citizen. The atmosphere of trust and confidence in the campus creates an ideal environment for holistic development of the students.

The role of the Mentor in the development of critical thinking and creative faculties among the students is that of a paramount importance in the formation and shaping the outlook and the attitude of the students. A mentor is an individual, usually older, always more experienced, who helps guide another individual’s development. The mentor’s role is to guide, to give advice, and to support the mentee. A mentor can help a person (Mentee) improve his or her abilities and skills through observation, assessment, modeling, and by providing guidance. With this purpose a well structured mentor-mentee system has been developed in the college to facilitate the students of this border and the Tribal area with well evolved mechanism as an appropriate platform to learn, unlearn and relearn the various skill sets to realize the full potential and growth. The teachers in the college as a mentor have been allotted a number of students under this Mentor-Mentee system.
