About Department
The Department of History has started its historical journey with the very beginning of the College and since then has been an important part of academic excellence of the institution. The Department has been offering correct perspective of the historical aspects of the curriculum of studies with scholarly interpretation of the various historical developments of the country and the world. “There is nothing that strengthens a nation like reading of a nation’s own history, whether that history is recorded in books or embodied in customs, institutions and monuments” – Joseph Anderson
History is the one of the oldest disciplines taught at T.S.Negi Govt.College .The Department of History seeks to better understand what humanity is, by investigating what humanity has done. It believes that historical perspective is fundamental to understand the world in which we live. To that end, the department offers various courses that explore both past and contemporary societies and their people. The general aims and objectives of all degree program in the department are to develop students’ interest in, to promote their study of, the past and to promote historical (subject specific) skills including the understanding of cultural, social, political, economic, intellectual and religious changes in the past, and their relation to the historical context of the period under study. The department was blessed with M.A History in 2020. Department organizes various co- curricular and extra-curricular activities for the overall development of the students Department. The History Department has good record of results and it intended to carry the tempo in future also. The department provides unlimited opportunities for students in higher studies, employment, research and competitive exams. The Department always encourages the students to look for historical perspectives of local governance and administration of yesteryears to preserve and pass on the healthy practices of traditional social and cultural order of the past, for the welfare of the present day policy makers.
Message of the HOD
Welcome to the reservoir of ancient wisdom lying unexplored in the depth of uncountable pages of time immemorial with innumerable layered multiple interpretations, but a rich resource of the knowledge. India is a country steeped in history, legends, myths, traditions and culture. We, the History Department of T.S. Negi Govt College envisage in building among students a love for country’s rich history and culture. Our department aims to sensitize students about past by narration, open discussions, interpretations and challenging existing thoughts. Besides covering traditional topics, the department also focuses on including new areas of interest in History including environmental history, local history, gender history, subaltern studies, history of science, folklore studies etc. Besides, inculcating historical consciousness we also believe in creating strong-willed persons equipped to face adversities of life.
Here in History Department we always focus on making the students confident, disciplined, and with strong determination and hard work, the students have been achieving laurels in curricular and co-curricular activities. Here in History Department, we make complete transformation of young people into noble citizens proud of their History and culture. Our Department believes in equal opportunity and equitable distribution of all the available resources for the welfare of all the students for their overall growth and holistic development.
