About Department

The Department of Mathematics was established in the year 1994 at the time of inception of the college itself with the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science as one of the elective subjects. Over the years since the inception of the college, the department has grown in tune with the demands of the institution and improved its strength and imparting sound knowledge in mathematics. One faculty member is working in the department.

At present the department offers undergraduate programmes to Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science with Mathematics. Total student strength of department in B.A./ B.Sc. =22

Vision of Department

To provide with and foster an environment of encouraging and participatory teaching learning where students can learn and become competent users of mathematics and mathematical application. Moreover, the department will be doing its best to contribute to the development of students as critical, judicious and mathematical thinkers with a noble thought for nation building. The department aims at giving best possible reach at institutional, state, national and international level by imparting mathematics as practical education using best practices.

Mission of Department

  • To work extra mile to make the subject of math’s interesting and more student friendly.
  • To make the subject accessible to all the students so that they may be perform well at the competitive exams.
  • To Develop the Skills and Attitudes necessary to pursue further studies in Mathematics.
  • To work towards transformation of young minds to competent and motivated professionals with sound theoretical and practical knowledge.
  • To make students aware of technology to explore mathematical concepts through activities and experimentation.
  • To inculcate in students the ability to apply mathematical skills to model, formulate and solve real life problems.
  • To develop the reasoning and analytical abilities of the students by giving them adequate exposure to the math’s.
  • To spread the awareness among the students regarding graduate attribute and the Bloom’s Taxonomy.

Strengths
  • The department has highly dedicated, experienced and qualified faculty who is available to the students throughout the year in person.
  • High quality study material authored by subject experts are provided to students.
  • The library has enough books and space.
  • Active participation of faculty in various college committees.
Weaknesses
  • Student enrolment is low.
  • There is shortage of smart class room in the department.
  • Participation of students in cultural, societal and sports activities is low.
  • Poor result in first year.
Opportunities
  • To start various certificate course of basic mathematics.
  • With improved infrastructure and increased student enrolment, P.G. classes can be started in the department.
Threats
  • To increase students strength in the department of Mathematics.
  • The diversion or students to professional course has led to less inclination towards basic science course.
  • Students do not take keen interest in Mathematics.
  • To remove phobia about subject and to create interest among the students to learn fundamental concepts of mathematics with zeal and interest.

Future Plans

  • To start certificate courses.
  • To organize national level seminars, workshops and conferences.
  • To arrange guest lecturers of experts in various fields.
  • To continue outreach programmes in various schools of district Kinnaur.
